The City of Regina is hosting the National Infrastructure Summit, occurring January 26-28, 2011 in Regina.  The Summit is the first organized event of its kind, in which all three orders of government and the private sector are invited and encouraged to engage in discussions and workshops from leaders and experts in various fields on global best practices and new approaches to planning, building and maintaining infrastructure.  These discussions will lead to recommendations and commitments towards bold, new approaches and alternate ways of financing infrastructure, while managing public and political expectations. 

The Summit will conclude with a plan to move forward in a cohesive and coordinated manner, with all three orders of government accepting and sharing responsibility and creating and implementing long-term, out of the box, innovative solutions to eliminating the national infrastructure deficit.

The Summit is the first major step in collectively managing our challenges in a structured, cohesive partnership.  During the next year, while current economic stimulus dollars are being delivered, work will be underway to establish common objectives, goals, resolutions and infrastructure solutions that will unify and strengthen relationships between all orders of government.

The future of modern municipalities must be based on a partnership approach, involving all orders of government, alongside the private sector.  As we have observed in the recent past, we can achieve great success by partnering with the federal and provincial governments.  Together, in the future, we can accomplish even greater things.

La ville de Regina accueillera le Sommet national de l'infrastructure du 26 au 28 janvier 2011.Il s’agit-là du premier sommet organisé réunissant les trois niveaux de gouvernement et le secteur privé, qui seront invités à participer à des discussions et des ateliers animés par des leaders dans leurs divers domaines d’expertise. On y abordera les questions de pratiques exemplaires adoptées dans le monde et on y parlera d’approches novatrices en matière de planification, de construction et de maintien des infrastructures. Ces discussions déboucheront sur des recommandations, et des engagements seront pris, concernant des approches nouvelles et audacieuses et d’autres façons de financer l’infrastructure, tout en gérant les attentes au niveau public et politique.

La conclusion du Sommet verra un plan d’action cohérent et coordonné entre les trois paliers de gouvernement, qui accepteront et partageront la responsabilité de mettre en place des solutions à long terme, innovatrices et sortant des sentiers battus, en vue d’éliminer le déficit national en matière d’infrastructures.

Le Sommet est la première grande étape d’un partenariat qui verra à la gestion collective de nos défis, de manière structurée et cohérente.  Au cours de l'année qui vient, tandis que des mesures de stimulation économique seront mises en place, nous aurons déjà commencé à établir en commun des objectifs, résolutions et solutions en matière d’infrastructures, qui permettront d’unifier et de renforcer les relations entre tous les paliers de gouvernement.

L’avenir des municipalités modernes doit se fonder sur une approche de partenariat, mettant en jeu tous les paliers de gouvernement ainsi que le secteur privé.  Comme nous l’avons observé récemment, nous pouvons atteindre la réussite en nous associant avec les gouvernements aux paliers fédéral et provincial.  Ensemble, nous pourrons accomplir de grandes choses.
